What annoys college admissions recruiters the most?

This is funny since Ivies have educated some of most sociopathic, self centered people in politics. It appears they like self-serving liars very much.

Laughing at teens is not a great look

I'm reminded of this every time Vance. DeSantis and Trump open their mouth. I don't think the "best" colleges want the best members of society: the non-shiny kids who work hard, are reliable, do things because they are the right thing to do and not to impress with a crafted agenda. I also think most people are impressed by bullshitters and really terrible at weeding them out.

It does tell you a lot about those schools and how disgusting they are.

Dont let them tell you different, they LOVE "passion projects". They just don't know them when they see them. The 20k counselor is calling it a passion project, but AOs just see a "great!" activity list that "really tells a story!"

Barf

What in the world are you talking about? AOs like students. Most aren't expecting anything unusual when it comes to activities. Join a club. Get a job. Play an instrument. Have a hobby. It's all fine.

Stop believing these random stories on the internet.

this exact scenario was described in Jeff Selingo's book.

Of for goodness sake. He’s a sensationalist and does his share of rage baiting.

You think all AOs are one way?

No. That’s why he didn’t do an year-long inside look at one school, but multiple schools

A UCLA AO stated publicly that if someone tried to get their SAT score mentioned in the initial application, like in an essay for instance, they tore up the application immediately.

They only consider those scores for class placement, after an offer has been made.

Agree. They attract “win at all costs” people. People who lie, embellish, and cheat to have an unbelievable resume.

🙄 As if no Democrat Ivy grads are self centered sociopaths.

You don't know any nice kids who got into fancy schools?

That’s not at all flattering to ucla or that admissions officer! (Though I agree mentioning sat score is ill advised, the idea that some clueless kid-probably one without a savvy parent reading to say cut that part, kid-would be blackballed is awful and that ao sounds like a jerk.)

A very typical path to AO is a humanities degree followed by an entry level job in an admissions office for a very low pay. The people who can afford this usually come from “good” families and can’t fathom a kid working 20 hrs/week.

The UC system hasn’t had a paper application to tear up in a long time. Source on that story?

I think perhaps AOs are irritated by people who want their kids to go to college, but don’t respect the people who work there. The disdain on this thread and the other one is disappointing.

Joseph R Biden defined, even by his fellow Democrats.

Most ludicrous comment of the day. You may not like his positions or policies but you’d be hard pressed to find someone who would say this about him.
