Yes. But of course there's the fear of, what if? ![]() Yesterday's posts here were screenshots of "the plan"... day 1 show the lists of schools, day 2 scare the school with pics/notes, day 3 pull the fire alarm then shoot 'em up as they come out of the schools. (So yesterday's scare tactic for today was "if your child's school has a fire alarm today, tell them to run like hell and hide outside the school instead of lining up.") It's sick what these kids (or adults) are doing, scaring parents, scaring students with their pranks - it's like screaming FIRE in a crowded room, but worse because social media is screaming it x100,000,000. |
Banneker parent here and we have heard nothing. |
This is truly sick. The SM platform needs to out these threat makers to the police |
I guess to be fair, the actual threats don't originate on social media. The threats are usually in screenshots of notes or phone pics or texts, and I'm assuming are shared to students via some sort of social media. It's the police scanner, parent, and neighborhood social media groups sharing and reposting the threats and lockdowns that's adding fuel to it all. |
There was a general DCPS email about it. |
Adding to that is this is (I think?) somewhat of a copycat to the Georgia shooting. He sent a list of schools that would have shootings and that that school would be first and I guess they didn’t lock down until after the mom called. |

This is a national trend but I see kids (under age 15) have been arrested in California and Florida as part of the threats there. It appears the threats aren't credible but that kids are engaging in this as a "social media trend."
What the hell. I remember when I was a kid we had a couple "fake bomb threats" while I was in high school that were almost certainly called in by students trying to get school cancelled. It was exasperating to the schools and police departments but also it was swiftly stopped when they passed a municipal law that would result in a huge fine for anyone who did this and when they announced that bomb sweeps would include locker searches and any kid found with ANY kind of drug or other paraphernalia (even like a bong with no weed) would face disciplinary action from both the school and the local police. Kids realized it wasn't worth it and quit. So why can't we stop this trend by announcing something like that. You can get in a ton of trouble for making a threat like this and so can your parents. It is very much not worth whatever kick you might get out of it. I know kids can be very stupid but this seems like not that hard of a lesson to teach them. |
BASIS is asynchronous learning tomorrow due to the threats. |
So frustrating. |
From the email sent, it seems asynchronous is not due to the threats per se but due to the parental consternation and disruption to the learning environment. My kid said that the intercom was basically nonstop with kids names being called for early dismissal. Kid guessed that 75% of kids left. Kid said they got very little done in classes. I'm curious how the other schools are handling. |
My kid is at MacArthur and a bunch were picked up early by their parents. This is too much for kids. |
Seems like it’s too much for the parents. |
