Naviance scattergrams

As it is, the scattergrams are pretty useless.

But even more useless are the FCPS counselors who just shrug and say "oh well, Naviance is what it is, nothing we can do about it".

Agree - and it would be SO much more helpful if they would use the GPA that the applicant applied with. Not the final senior year GPA, which is irrelevant for application purposes! Drives me crazy.

Which makes no sense because how does that help anyone gauge whether they have the grades to apply?

Also - Naviance shows end of 12th grade GPAs not GPA when applied to the school (well at least our DCPS does it that way)

So my current Freshman in College had his best year for GPA in 12th grade.
When he applied to schools, his GPA was 2/10 of a point lower than the dot shows now.
Bottom line - there is a lot of noise in the data and use Naviance as a starting point

That’s frustrating. My kid’s district shows TO, ED/EA/RD, and it also shows waitlist followed by accepted/denied. Ours does not show hooked acceptances. So it’s fairly helpful.

Tbf, you or your student should be able to extrapolate estimated end of senior yr GPA and vice versa, best vs meh case scenarios, based on classes planned and weighting. It is not that hard.
