Which SLAC for my 1310 SAT; 4.0 (UW) GPA kiddo?

She would like to go to a small liberal arts college and study international relations or government. She is pretty liberal in her politics. Her current list has some realistic schools and others that are beyond reach. I think she needs a better (more realistic) list than she has. What other schools should she look at? Her current list is:

Vassar (out of her league)
Hamilton (out of her league)
Bryn Mawr
American University (not a SLAC - but she likes it)
Gettysburg
University of Mary Washington (luckily she really likes this school)

Wesleyan Or Bowdoin. They believe in test optional. ED

St Mary's College of Maryland
UMBC
Towson
Goucher
Maybe Pitt--might be a reach

Thanks!
I'd check the finances of Gettysburg before applying.

She'd like to study international relations or government.

These schools should all be safeties for this kid, especially if she applies TO. The SAT score is an outlier here. My goodness. I would have her apply TO to a range of good LACs.

Macalester.

You're an amatuer.

Trinity or Connecticut College are easier. She should go TO

Has she tried the ACT? Could also retake SAT

Davidson, U Richmond. Just go test optional.

You are an amateur if you think that Hamilton College is out-of-reach for a student with an unweighted 4.0 GPA and all 5s on her AP exams.

I was also going to recommend Macalester.

I’m surprised that a kid who has received all 5s would get a 1310 on the SAT. Which exams were they?

ED TO at W&M. Checks a lot of boxes and excellent for international relations.

I was just going to suggest W&M test optional.

Admissions are holistic. My niece had a similar SAT score/stats and is now thriving at Vassar as a Senior.

Nothing is off the table in TO world. Her list looks reasonable to me. Dickinson and Macalester are good suggestions to consider adding. If you're a VA resident, why not also W&M? If she wants an additional safety, she could check out the James Madison College at Michigan State. MSU obviously is huge, but JMC is a residential college of ~1200 students that's quite well regarded for IR and government.

I’m usually not on favor of withholding scores, but slacs are very favorable to test optional candidates. I would have her apply test optional and submit her AP scores. None of the schools on your list are out of reach.
