PPs for whoever is curious, someone went through the 2023-2024 standards versus the 2024-2025 standards for 3rd and identified the differences.

The cause is a tiny bit the 2023 math standards from VDOE but mostly what looks like the E3 pilot becoming the model throughout FCPS.

Pretty surprised more 3rd grade and under parents aren't upset about this. Though I will say one advanced math teacher who was part of the E3 pilot said her kids did better on the SOL after E3 than before.

E3 also requires the slower pace usually used in general education. This slower pace covers less material than AAP used to cover. The county touts this slower pace as “going deeper.”

Makes it much easier to dismiss the true information mixed in.

I strongly disagree with watering down 3rd grade advanced math, but what they are doing is not actually the exact same thing as, for ex, what was done in San Francisco. The thing is, with advanced math push ins becoming more common this really impacts a lot more kids than full time AAP kids.

Out of all the kids in the "accelerated" math class only 4 come from the level IV AAP classroom. How is this only related to AAP?

A google search turned up nothing about the quoted “network” (other than a link back here to DCUM).

Whatever this mysterious E3 happens to be, it has been implemented across FCPS this year.

What school is that? Our school is language immersion and informed us that in Fairfax, advanced math doesn't begin until 5th grade.

Whatever this mysterious E3 happens to be, it has been implemented across FCPS this year.

It was something like Enhancing, Engaging, and Enriching Math Standards Network and it was a pilot of 10, then 20 schools who had different math in 3rd and 4th. Since it’s done it’s no longer on the FCPS website. But there’s tons of info on DCUM including posts from teachers who worked with the curriculum as a pilot who loved it and parents who hated it. It appears it’s all of FCPS now.

E3 Alliance is unrelated.
