Braggy message tees and sweatshirts?

I don’t like my chest being read in general.

You're missing a chance to be posting offended TikToks and comments about how people are always staring your chest reading the paragraph on there that "I wear for MYSELF, not YOU"

When I looked on the Anthropologie site I saw a ton of sweatshirts that said stuff like "Wifey" and "Fiancé". Do people actually wear these? It seems incredibly obnoxious. They also had stuff that said "Bride" and "Maid of Honor" which is also kind of obnoxious but I could see someone wearing to a bachelorette party or the week of the wedding. But like is someone walking around wearing a sweatshirt that says Wifey.

There's also a brand called Favorite Daughter selling sweatshirts that say "Dad's Favorite" or "Mom's Favorite" and while I get these are meant to be kind of tongue in cheek next to the other ones it just comes off as very braggy.

Is this a new trend? I have never been a message tee person but it's never bothered me that other people wear them. But these feel self-absorbed and braggy in a totally different way. And I say that as someone who is married and was a fiancé and has even been a maid of honor and might be described privately as my mom's favorite daughter. But I can't imagine wearing any of this stuff. Can someone explain it to me.

The wifey/bride/MOH stuff has been around forever. I had a lot of peers get married in 2016-2018 (and also got married in that time frame myself) and everyone had them for the bachelorette and wedding day. On our honeymoon there were 6 couples on our flight in some variation of these shirts. It's sort of similar to the mama/mama bear clothing, that gives me the ick but to each his own.

Never seen the "Mom's Favorite" kind of stuff but I would imagine that if you looked for it 10 years ago, you'd find it.

Surely someone on this thread is approaching 40 and once wore velour sweatpants with the word "juicy" on the butt.

There was a market for those sweatpants then and there is a market for those sweatshirts now.

Are women really going to work on Wall Street in jeans and ties?

I've never seen the shirts that OP is talking about, but last month I saw a woman wearing a tshirt that said "yes, my father had a rolls royce" and I thought good lord... most people are not going to get the joke (it's a reference to the David Beckham documentary) and will thinks she's bragging.

Haha. I really want a shirt that says "Not like the other girls" because it's in a song I like by Blood Orange, but I'm afraid no one is going to get it.

I have a great surname, very similar to Gold.

Yes, I buy anything and everything with my surname to my great amusement. My family members are always on the hunt for Gold merch and especially sweatshirts and tees. I’m sure people think I’m a total weirdo for wearing seemingly random word hats/hoodies and tees but I don’t care. All in good fun.

How would you describe it? I do think it's braggy to wear clothes that identify your marital status. It shouldn't be a brag but when someone is walking around wearing a Fiancé or Wifey t-shirt unironically then it absolutely is about them bragging about their status.

What a strange mindset.

1) No, it's not a trend.
2) Being a wife or a fiancee doesn't bestow some enviable status on someone.
3) Some people are tacky. But see No. 1.

I don't wear any messages on my clothing. But I also think it's odd to go to Anthroplogie for a dog walking sweatshirt? That's a Target purchase, maybe Dicks if I'm feeling fancy.

It makes me laugh. I don’t care what other people think when I wear silly tshirts and sweatshirts.

Bet that I can guess what's on all of your clothes....

I got married in 2010 and all of that was a thing back then, too. On my honeymoon I saw 3 or 4 different women in white bikinis with those "just married" sunhats. And yeah, wedding parties wore those bride/bridesmaid shirts to go dress shopping, or the nail salon on the wedding day, or the bridal shower, etc. It's not new.

Similar, my surname has a part that sounds like the name of an animal that some people consider cute and so there are pictures of said animal on all sorts of items. All my extended family tends to collect these items and have them tucked in various places around our houses. We just like to have fun with it.
