When will the Purple Line actually be done?

If you want a status update, they have a website:

I drive by a number of future purple line stops in Bethesda and Chevy Chase. It's progressing, that's all I can say.

Purple Line is a colossal waste of public resources that never should have happened.

No one will ever look back and say the purple line made sense.

Blame Larry Hogan for the delays.

MoCo could have killed Hogan’s plan by not paying its share. There’s a lot of blame to go around.

Do what now?

Yes, there's a lot of blame to go around. In chronological order:

the Columbia Country Club
the Town of Chevy Chase
Bob Ehrlich
proponents of the ICC
people with their sheds on, and/or their houses near, the Georgetown Branch right-of-way
Larry Hogan
a federal judge
Larry Hogan some more

If you thought the PPP was a bad idea then you should have told the county not to put money toward the purple line under that arrangement. A few people said we shouldn’t proceed under this arrangement but they got drowned out by people who said the purple line is be best thing ever. If you supported the purple line as a PPP project, you share the blame. But at least you still got to stick it to the NIMBYs. Just wait until there’s a special taxing district around the stations to support it.

It's a PPP because of the ICC. The state reached the bond limit after issuing bonds for the ICC backed by decades of future federal highway funding (GARVEE bonds). So then they couldn't issue bonds for the Purple Line, and they had to do a PPP instead.

I thought the ICC was a bad idea, and said so.
