OP here. He did not have covid. His pulse o2 was 99 but the doctor heard wheezing. He had a lot of phlegm and had a rattling cough. The breathing treatment definitely seemed to help release some of the mucous but they have him bad nightmares lastnight. He is also on prednisone and cefdinir for what she said was an ear infection. I don't know the name for what he has. When I asked the doctor was vague and said it could be called reactive airway disease. Is this the same thing as bronchiolitis? He seems much better today. I have to get him checked on Thursday before he's cleared for sports.. Is that enough time to sit out, four days? |
Adults, too. DH had walking pneumonia a couple of months ago. Read up on it, people. It is contagious and spreads easily. |
|
It’s not a big deal. Lots of kids grow out of reactive airway disease. Mine did.
Doesn’t sound like your kid has a lung infection. |
| +1 on checking for pneumonia. This from a parent whose kid got it, was misdiagnosed by the pediatrician, and it progressed to the point where surgery was required with a 2-week hospitalization. |
How is pneumonia treated? He is on antibiotics now. Is it worth also getting a chest X-ray? |
It's because of covid. Impacts your immune system and also your lungs Colds are very uncommon in the summer OP. It's likely covid. |
| It was COVID |
| Probably covid. Might not have tested positive anymore if it started a couple of weeks ago (and some never test positive) |
Covid and covid vaccines impact the immune system. |
| Why would you send your kid to school sick? |
There is a specific antibiotic for walking pneumonia |
| Your pedi didn’t say it was pneumonia. But typically pneumonia is treated with antibiotics. If he’s already better today I wouldn’t worry about it. |
| Colds turn into upper respiratory infections. It's common. |
