is $100 enough for a graduate gift?

I'm just generally annoyed about kids and thank you notes. I'm the executor of my dads estate. He left his friends kids $10K each. I sent the the checks with a note about what each kid meant to my dad. The checks cleared. Not a word from the kids or their parents--no acknowledgement, no thank you, no text. If the check hadn't cleared, I would be wondering if they received it.

Next time consider gifting a box of thank you notes with envelopes and stamps accompanied by instructions on assembly along with an information pamphlet on how to use the US Postal system.

That is appalling. Sorry for your loss. Your dad sounds sweet.

If someone gave me a quarter, I'd still have been made to send a thank you note, and I had the kind of parents who wrote down exactly who gave how much. $100 is perfectly respectable. That person's manners are not (and I'm not even from the South!).

More than enough, OP. And please stop expecting thank you notes! No one has done this for years!

Thank you notes have gone out of style among many. I’d say we get a thank you note maybe 50% of the time for the grad gifts.

Good manners are never out of style and, frequently, make a huge difference of succeeding in life. I had several applicants for a position and they were comparable for education, experience, and references. The one who sent a thank you letter was hired.

I have only agreed with Clarence Thomas once: "Good manners will open doors that the best education will not." I confess that I judge by manners both adults and children.

So sad.
