Probably can figure this out at the event tomorrow evening, too. |
IEP supports are whoafully under-resourced at BASIS. The staff that provides support are great and caring but TOTALLY OVERWORKED and clearly disempowered. |
This is such an ignorant and ableist comment. And there are many diagnoses/reasons besides ADHD that a student might have an IEP or need accommodations. |
What is ignorant and ableist about the comment? PP said that lots of people have ADHD so there may be a lot of IEPs in a class for that reason. The different diagnoses/reasons make no difference. The end result is that most students have ADHD and need an IEP, or a 504 at the very least. |
Most adults have ADHD. To tell you the truth, I don't know anyone who *doesn't* have ADHD. |
So your kid spent 2 days in the building and instead of reaching out to the school, the dean, the coordinator for IEP services, any of the teachers or the grade specific chats and groups you come to DCUM? I want to believe you are a troll but sadly I think you're not.

BASIS has a pretty rough history with IEPs. It would not surprise me at all if they were essentially creating a self contained classroom by putting all the IEP kids in the same class. |
The stats on % of kids with disabilities says otherwise. |
Ignorant statement by someone who knows nothing of the school. |
Seems like you know nothing. How long have you been at the school? There was a federal investigation of BASIS’s treatment of students with disabilities. |
Seems like you didn’t read the thread. |
Last year, my child’s 5th grade class at BASiS had an assistant in their class that mainly supported a couple of students that likely had IEPs. My child also has a 504, and there were definitely some other kids in the class that also got pulled out for small group testing/more time, but it certainly wasn’t all of the kids in the class by any means. I knew of multiple kids in the class that didn’t have IEP or 504 (btw…TONS of kids have them and many parents don’t necessarily divulge that information to others including our family!)
I have no idea if other classes also had an assistant and/or if kids in the other 5th grade classes got pulled out for small group testing. Honestly, it didn’t concern me nor was it my business bc it should be confidential. FWIW, we had a positive experience with the school related to the 504 plan and got weekly updates on our child’s progress. It was honestly much better than our elementary support especially in terms of BASIS managing student behavior at the school. |
