As a former college swimmer and parent of two, I think a good group of peers is very important to motivate and to make swimming fun

Swim practice for senior groups can start before 5am. Geography is key.

No if I’m committed enough to practice before 5am then I’m absolutely making sure it’s with a good program not just the closest program.

Sure. But I'm not driving past one good program to go to a different, further good program.

Unless all their friends are at the other site.

The kid is a junior. If their times make them a recruit, I’m driving. If not, we’re not

Alot of it comes down to whether or not the coaches give you the B-team heebie-jeebies. If the coach so much as hinted, they are going to focus on other kids and you weren't their favorite, they would automatically make my special list. Unfortunately, much of modern youth travel athletics seems to operate these ways. They have to have a big team to pay for coaches to go to national trials, but only a few of the kids can make it to take them there, so most of the kids end up paying for the coaching of the few kids.

I reported the RSFC for having "private" tryouts at the public facility I don't know if Olney has that practice.

Since this is the OP of the other thread and your beef is so RSFC and RMSC, RMSC pays for coaches’ travel expenses through money collected from the swimmers attending the travel meet. If a national level meet, some is paid by PVS.

Wth cares if they do private tryouts? There are various reasons for doing so, sorry your daughter wasn’t offered a spot in ISS/minis at RMSC Rockville.
