You vastly underestimate how motivated coaches are to attract players who will help them win games. It’s what keeps them employed. |
But coaches also need to get paid, which is what club dues go towards. Giving discounts based on quality of play is also just asking for dissension. |
Not saying it doesn’t happen but it is all super shady at best and illegal at worst. These coaches should be called out and exposed. |
Parents are incentivized not to dislose any discount. Coach pay and a number of discounted or free player slots are factored in when club fees are calculated. I don’t know what else to tell you. |
| This thread devolved into players getting discounts. I'm more interested in if the advertised rates are actually what the average person pays. Are there hidden fees? |
Except that is not the way it works -- at least ont he girls side. I would never say never but most clubs will not give a discount for anyone except for financial reasons. It may happen outside the top clubs for other reasons but not on the top teams (ECNL, GA). Family issues, money, divorce, death -- sure but not becasue you are the next National Team Player. |
On the girls side? I doubt it. |
Shady is in the eye of the beholder, I guess. No law are being broken. Just follow the incentives. |
| Your numbers aren't accurate for STJ |
Comments like this are not very helpful. Could you ellaborate, is it more or less? by how much? |
I won’t claim to know how every clubs work, but the “top” club I have knowledge of comps fees for a handful of players. I know at least a few others do as well. It is not solely predicated on the kid being so damn good that they don’t have to pay. It may be that, but ultimately it is about attracting or keeping a player/family in the club. |
I mean the "hidden" fees are mostly all the travel which can vary greatly depending on amount of hotel stays/flights. Those can easily dwarf the team/club fees. |
Why does it matter? |
Is this the reason why a salesman can be now a coach making 6 figures? |
because he is a harder worker than someone like you? |
