I’m guessing the first rule is because there are not enough adults able to supervise the hallways because they are there getting their classes set up. It probably changed because some kids were causing trouble. As for the ID thing…how is that annoying? They keep it on their backpacks. These are so minor, I am surprised someone would ding a principal for this. If these are her worst qualities, I’m happy my kids are at RHS!

+1 (2 kids at RHS). I am a big fan of the counseling office and the assistant principal. Leadership starts at the top so if I am a fan of theirs, I am a fan of hers. When we first arrived, my 1 child needed a safety plan in place. Both the counselor and AP checked in routinely with both me and the child through the first semester to make sure everything was working as it should. I also had an incident where 1 of my children was severely injured in class (not the teacher's fault) and the school handled it appropriately for both my family and the other child's. |
Parent and former teacher/principal (not in MCPS) here... Principals can't win. You complain if they implement a rule like the one above to ensure students are safe and supervised (i.e. trying to make sure there no drugs and sex happening in the bathrooms...), and then you complain more when there are drugs and sex happening in the bathroom. Please, PLEASE do not think you know how to run a school simply because you attended one 20+ years ago. And please, please, PLEASE stop making everyone who tries to run one miserable. You're one of the big factors in driving out all the decent ones! |
It’s “unhelpful” until a stranger gets in the building (gang member, dealer, trafficker, jilted boyfriend, random psycho) and causes an incident, right? |
+1 These high schoolers are overreacting instead. It isn’t even a big deal at all, it’s only meant to help create a more safer environment from lockdowns or other incidents. |
Preach! Many principals left last year. Yes. MCPS was a mess but so were the unreasonable expectations from the public, at times. People have options and they followed through on those options. |
| The ID "rule" at Rockville was part of the student ID pilot for safety and security. Students at ALL middle and high schools will be required to wear or carry a school ID this year. It is a safety issue and one I am glad MCPS is implementing. |
There's no serious infrastructure and rigor behind the student ID badge mandate though. They just have to flash them at an admin and walk through the doors. |
| An annoying whiny brat. |
| Whoops! Looks like a student found out the principal’s information online. |
| Why is there an acting director of the athletics program? |
| She’s a terrible person. I used to work there and transferred to another school because of her lack of support for her staff and her inability to manage the school properly. I know many other former staff members who left for the same reason. She also routinely passes over qualified current staff members for promotions and new job opportunities and gives the positions to her friends. She’s talks shit behind everyone’s backs. Just a really bad situation over there. |
The principal creates a hostile work environment. |
