University of Minnesota?

It’s not a commuter campus. Most people are not in dorms after frosh year but live in immediate area, including student-only apartment buildings that are privately owned.

Frankly, it’s never been the same since Brenda Walsh dropped out two weeks into her freshman year.

It is so cold there in the winter

I don't get the love for Pitt. My only thought is the cost and the distance to DC is ideal.

I went to Pitt. So did my husband. I really enjoyed it. The professors were good. Still have good memories from science classes, art history, English lit, being a psychology research assistant, choir ensemble, etc. I indulged my love of medieval history by attending departmental talks, etc. I had some profs that wrote notable books/were known in their field. I found the Cathedral of Learning and Nationality Classrooms very inspiring. As well as the Carnegie Museum and Library, etc. I found the local students city-minded vs. sheltered suburbanites, hard-working, and appreciative of the liberal arts. The football team was terrible at the time but that made games more fun for socializing. I didn't care about D1 sports at all. I like great bargains and life hacks. Pitt worked out great for us. We both got full-rides to high-ranked grad schools.

At least it is a clear cold, not gloomy and gray.

Thankfully I learned from the helpful DCUM family that Minnesota is a cold cesspool or we would have never known.

+1 Hoping DS will get merit and consider it. DCUM looks down on the midwest (with some exception for Michigan). Fine with me, less competition for merit for DMV kids. As to the weather, it is all about the gear. College is not a beach vacation.

It's public and in the Midwest, so of course DCUM hates it.

But it is reliably liberal with laws many folks here like except for the one Trumper toolbox on this thread.

Liberal or conservative laws aren't a major concern for our family. My son is applying to both Minnesota and Auburn, and our only preference is proximity to an airport. He’s resilient and adaptable, whether it's a small or large school, in a hot or cold climate, or in a liberal or conservative state. I find it tiresome when people wear their politics on their sleeves, regardless of party affiliation. I agree that the Trumper is annoying but so is the parent writes about women's health concern in southern states.

Ding, ding, ding... Which was the reason for the original post. At least your rational in your thought. Of the two Auburn wins hands down.

One is spewing crap (Minnesota is a dump) that is at best subjective while the other is talking about a real concern for many people. But sorry that offends some sensibilities.
