Yondr pouch pilot program at some MS

No way my kid is doing this

I'm not sure about this particular system (isn't that why they pilot it - to see how it works?) but I do love some sort of system to keep phones away during middle school. I think they did have a county wide policy last year that middle school phones should be "away for the day", but I know it didn't work very well and was hard to monitor. I'm glad they are trying something.

Agree. Put some landlines in for kids to use
If they need to call their parents.

And this is why teachers hate your screen addicted kid.

Another HS teacher and I don’t see it this way. I think it’s a big overstep on the part of the school to purchase these and expect kids to put their personal property in them all day and hold onto them themselves. Then charge them if they are damaged. The staff better do the same or it’s hypocritical. Just ban cell phones completely and have real consequences for use. Back the teachers for giving consequences. I would have an issue if my kids went to a school that did this too.

I don't know why the school expects kids to take the pouches home, that seems like a recipe for failure. Why can't they just leave them in a box at the entrance of school like other school districts do?

Last year there was an active shooter scare at my kid's school complete with FCPS response. DD was locked in a room for an hour while the school was cleared terrified. I'm glad she had her phone

Anytime property is sent home that the parents are responsible for, there is a form signed by the parents. Just don't sign the form

That would require consequences across the board, unless cell phone is a suspension but remains fighting or chair throwing is a strong talking to. FCPS will not go there because equity

They will still have access to Google chat so I don’t see the point. They are always on laptops in class.

OK, that’s your decision. But don’t come on here later on and say that the process doesn’t work.

Always?
Unlikely, but this forum is filled with parents who exaggerate.

phones in school aren't something I care about. I care about constant fights, kids ditching and hanging out in hallways, loudly disruptive kids in class. If the schools cared about those issues, then I might care when my kid is quietly on a phone
