I specialize in very fragrant roses, most of them tea hybrids from France. I've loved very fragrant roses since I was a child in the UK. Here in the DC area, they're difficult to grow, because conditions aren't quite right. Roses that do well in full sun in north-west Europe need midday shade here. The soil is a bit too clay-filled, and the summer humidity leads to all sorts of problems, but in a ventilated space and with care, I still manage to get really nice blooms.

Hydrangeas
I want my front porch surrounded by large, mature hydrangeas (it's a work in progress). They make me so happy. |

Lily of the Valley
They are tiny but smell so good and remind me of both my grandmother and my husbands 's grandmother. When I had our first child she filled a bucket from the casino with flowers for my hospital room. It made me so happy and every year I remember all of these things when they bloom. |
