Agree with this.

Just to nitpick:

Perimenopause is all the time leading up to menopause when hormones are fluctuating.

Menopause is when you have gone twelve consecutive months without a period and thus have achieved menoPAUSE.

Everything after that is postmenopause.

Peri/postmenopausal is where all the gun happen.

Well, people like to talk about retirement and empty nest - the emotional aspects - keeping busy, feeling like you have a purpose etc. That is different from financial concerns and would fall under "midlife"

Menopause is better as a forum title. Perimenopause and Beyond works but is annoyingly long. Best option might be Reproductive Health or Women’s Health but that might cannibalize the main Health forum.

I would avoid creating forums by age of poster because that causes too much overlap with the topical categories, ie you can be on your fifties and also have questions about money or cooking.

The elderly are menopause

+1 to Perimenopause and Beyond.

Thank you, Jeff.

I suggest “Peri- and Menopause” if the intent is to solely discuss the symptoms and seek solutions for the transition that happens leading up to and including menopause.

As someone who has been rocked by peri, I appreciate this!

Menopause & the stages are part of health and should in that forum. I think separating it is a disservice and allows for the thought that menopause is not a health issue. As a woman, don't think we need a separate forum.

Where would the need to separate health concerns end?

Do agree Eldercare is about caring for someone else, not the poster being elderly.

What about “Women’s Health”?

This could include all the peri and menopause, plus issues like hormonal imbalances, fibroids, and stuff. Or would that be confused too frequently with the general health forum?

I absolutely agree the eldercare needs to be separate.

I didn't read the thread because as a sort of perimenopausal woman I do not have the attention span, nor the desire, to hear other opinions.

But I would like this. And I would seek others opinions and input when I want to, as well as share mine.

Please don't put it in Over 50. Perimenopause, which is the stage in which women experience actual symptoms, can being in the late 30s (which is within the range of normal). Menopause is essentially when periods cease and all the mess/crazy is over. Over 50 is not really going to capture the full range of affected ages, and also kind of erroneously stigmatizes "menopause" as an "old lady" thing.

I wholeheartedly endorse a "Perimenopause and Menopause and Related Issues" Forum!

As (it seems) the only poster who does not support a Menopause based thread, I do like the suggestion of Women's Health and could see a Men's Health. The original health thread could be a catch all.

You must be young!

I know women in their late 70s who are twenty years postmenopausal and still having hot flashes that ruin their sleep.

Menopause is a moment in time when menses pauses after twelve consecutive dry months.

Many, many women suffer debilitating symptoms of the change of life for many years into postmenopause.

That works, I think.

Thanks for the separate forum, Jeff.
