Yes, but SMCS kids have some school support in identifying internships. The program is so well-known, the kids have access to opportunities that might not be available to other students.

A lot of businesses can’t or don’t want to hire anyone under 18 due to insurance and liability reasons. Interns can often just be more work to manage than they are worth.

I was surprised that even MoCo summer camps can have interns rather full 100% paid employees now.

It really is a who you know issue for high schoolers to get jobs and internships. Even for graduating seniors I was surprised how hard it is to get a job. Even retail and restaurants want people with prior work experience.
