A lot of what’s being described here isn’t lack of maturity but lack of life skills. The former is due to the child, the latter is due to the parents.

I haven’t noticed this among my family members or friends. My boys are very capable and self-sufficient. What I do see is that in my generation many men feign helplessness so their wives won’t ask much of them. DH is a master of this when it comes to household tasks that he has no interest in. Apparently, his mom asked very little of him growing up because he was the only boy.
