| Agree with everything pretty much except Gaithersburg. Why DAR? Gaithersburg is better with UMBC. |
|
I'll toss in a new option:
MC-Rockville - the Montgomery College graduation is held in an air-conditioned tent the week before Memorial day. Tent covers the entire athletic field and has 3000 seats plus open area in the back 1/3 of the tent with tables and space for catering. Big stage, full AV set-up, nice trailer restrooms, overflow seating in the theater, tons of parking. Gaithersburg, Rockville, RM, Wootton all in adjacent neighborhoods. QO, Northwest, Seneca Valley, Watkins Mill also have good access. MCPS already has a partnership with MC - they should explore sharing the costs of keeping that rental set-up an additional week or so and crank out 8 graduations there the T-F after Memorial Day. |
That is actually not a bad idea. My only concern would be parking, but then again metro is just a few blocks around the corner. |
I'm happy to have it indoors, not on a field with the hot sun on me, and the kids in their gowns. |
| OP made this up everyone. Don’t panic. |
Seriously - this thread is misleading and I did panic for a second. DAR is a pain in the butt. UMBC wasn't so bad, I just hated that we had an afternoon time. Oh and the sound system was terrible. |
MC has a ton of parking. In addition to all the surface lots around the campus, there’s a big parking garage. When I attended their main graduation with 1000+ graduates, there was no issue. |
| Considering how much a lot of DCUM looks down its nose at MC, it would be kind of funny if those looking-down-noses people had to attend their children's high school graduations at MC. |
|
Why did MCPS pick UMBC? Is it because of graduates who are planning to go to UMBC for a 4-year college?
|
Because College Park was too expensive. |
That sounds perfect. |
Great idea. Throw in Clarksburg and Damascus. That’s the budget for 10 schools graduation. They should be able to make that work. |
Why Blake at DAR? So many of the schools listed at UMBC are far closer to DAR than Blake. |
Damascus had theirs on site this year. Why not continue with that? |
