Typical DCUM posters. Somebody will suggest University of Tasmania before it’s over.

DH went there! Great choice for marine science. 😉

I was going to say he sounds better than above average. Funny how your own kid’s high school skews your idea of what is average or above average or top stats!

+1

If the student goes to a rigorous school or maybe a competitive private school where As are not the norm, they're definitely above average.

Which is what most people—by definition—are.

And that is absolutely fine. He is obviously a bright and engaged student who will have many options to choose from.

I mean, 6-7 AP classes is all some high schools have. So for all we know, this is a super rigorous courseload.

OP said “Mid Atlantic,” which can include North Carolina.

I agree Elon is worth a look for this student.

Santa Clara has gotten a lot harder now that Apple pulls from there for CS & Finance. In California, they've become more of a reach for traditional high achieving students, because admissions has gotten a bit whackey.
Miami is very difficult to get into in general, even for a top stats student.

Yes AND... the profile of the kids currently enrolled is exactly the OPs kid. There aren't hundreds of 12 APs and 1560s running around Santa Clara and Miami.
