You pick your kids up from a drop-off party ON TIME

Welp, three out of eight kids were still there 15-20 minutes after 4. So instead of being able to simply pack up and leave, we had to monitor three additional kids with essentially nothing to do, as they couldn’t go back out to the trampoline park (you only get an hour of jump time) and we had to clear out of the party/food room, as of course the staff needed to clean and set up for the next party.

RUDE. Get your kids. Five minutes late is one thing. TWENTY minutes late? What the hell?

This should be your biggest problem in life

15 to 20 minutes of your life is NOT a big deal. Get the f over it. If it’s so annoying then don’t have parties - easy.

all these mad people are the late ones LOL

They're so defensive and angry

It's so rude OP and I don't understand why the majoiry of posters here side with them. Call or txt the host if you are running more than a couple of minutes late for whatever reason, that is the polite thing to do.

You sound very highly strong to have found that to be a big deal. Seriously, in the grand scheme of things, this was 15 minutes for you to sit around on your kids birthday and let them frolic for a few more minutes with some other kids. Life is short, try not to be so miserable about it.

You.are.a.jerk.

Get there on time. It’s your responsibility. Step up.

Very frustrating. If not invited next year, then they would be the ones on here complaining their kid was left out.

Now you know how teachers feel every single day! I’d say out of 180 school days, every student is picked up on time maybe 10 of those days. I work second job and don’t even have time to use the bathroom because parents are late and I have to leave. Rude. I wish I could charge them by the minute like daycare centers do.

Yeah. I agree. People who are late are people who never host parties. If you’ve ever hosted one, you know how it works.

+100!

I can tell who the freeloaders and moochers are by thinking it’s not a big deal to pick up 20 minutes late from a drop off party at an event venue. Seriously.

I would have still been gracious and understanding to their face, but it was totally rude

Yep, this.

My answer depends in part on how far the party venue was from where everyone lives. Some of these party venues are almost an hour from where the kids live. And you don’t want people to stay. So they need to go home or run other errands. All of which means they may hit traffic and be late picking up. They should have texted you though once they knew they would be late.

Paid by who?

Teachers feel like this all the time.

Solidarity OP.

Everyone is very aggressive here.

I have hosted tons of parties for my kids, now young adults and teens, and there was always one parent late, as in, more than 10 minutes late. Rarely, one was very late.

And since I'm not an aggressive jerk, I'm going to tell you all that this is not a problem in the big scheme of things. Tardy people are one of the minor inconveniences in life.

Late parents were rude. If the venue isn’t near home, run errands close by or go for a nice long walk with a podcast or something. This isn’t hard.

But it’s not something to spend a lot of energy on. It happens and you assume the risk when you host a party.

It’s life.
