OP is like an alcoholic who comes on here and says help me not drink. I am trying to not drink. It's never worth it afterwards. And you, PP, are saying: Have a drink! You deserve it. You are either also spoiled or a destructive troll. |

If you’re like my wife, you order 25 things for your trip and only like 2 things. And then maybe you only wear 1 of them on the trip. In meantime, you’re living among piles of shipping boxes and need to spend 2+ hours after your vacation to process, pack up, and drop off all these items at USPS, UPS, FedEX and the Amazon drop window at Whole Foods.
Don’t buy more sh#t. |
There are some people who have a lot of anxiety around declutterring and purging items. This is my spouse. A decluttering session often involves a lot of crying. |
| You have a shopping addiction. Get some help. |
| If you must buy something new, make sure to get rid of (not plan to get rid of, not post on marketplace and figure that counts, ACTUALLY sell/donate) the similar thing you have now. If you want to buy those cute new flip flops, make sure you’ve spent the time to get every pair of flip flops you already own out of your house before you click Purchase. I bet you won’t get to it before you leave (and if you do well at least someone else has also benefited from your shopping addiction). |
+1 Troll???? |
| Stop buying cheap stuff in bulk. Buy fewer better clothes you love and you won’t have this recurrent dissatisfaction with what you own, you’ll look better, and you’ll create less waste. |
| I always get a couple new things before a vacation. It's a ritual I enjoy. I always end up being happy to wear the items because they suit the destination, and then I keep wearing them year-round. So I'd not restrain myself unless you are a "wear it twice and toss it" type. |
| Shipping is such a time suck. The stores have little inventory so then, you need to order online and most items are disappointing. Then, the returns. Figure out what you will wear on your vacation now, and relax. |
I used to be like this and the bold is what helped me stop. Any time I want to order something now, I ask myself "Do I actually need this? What is the liklihood I will like it and it will fit, or will I just be stuck returning it later?" And that talks me out of 90% of my orders. That and continual decluttering around the house so I am constantly aware of how much crap we have in general. |

You don’t need a new wardrobe, but I absolutely use my monthly Nuuly or Rent the Runway subscription for this type of thing.
No one NEEDS new clothes for vacation unless it’s something like hiking or skiing and you don’t have safe, weather appropriate gear. But is is nice to have a cute top or a new dress for a nice dinner or that family photo on the beach. |
| You will be fine. No one at any resort cares what you are wearing, and honestly we sometimes sit by the pool and critic outfits, and we always call out the new wardrobe people. You can stand out cause tags are left on, sometimes seams are splitting, and some clothes need that first wash to look fresh. |
| I just buy a few outfits when I get to where I'm going, most of the time. It's fun. |
| I was like you but I'm trying to do less pre-travel shopping. I tell myself that if I really need something, I can buy it at the destination. I rarely end up needing to buy anything, but it staves off the pre-travel shopping. |
| My friend used to wait to buy things until she was on vacation. |
