We’re in MCSL and I think it’s unsportsmanlike to wear them at A and B meets. Pretty much anything that’s not Divisionals/All-Stars/All-Star Relays. Just don’t. That’s not the point of summer swimming. |
I do still wonder how a non-tech kneeskin is going to change anything in a children's summer sprint meet. Does anyone have any evidence? |
Our D2 team has no policy. A few swimmers wear tech suits to A meets. I think they look ridiculous but have never voiced that thought. |
We are on a team that has bounced around the upper levels of NVSL (though never division 1). Every single "A" meet has many, many kids wearing the 12U legal "tech" suits. Most "B" meets also have multiple kids in them (though not as many as at "A" meets).
Actual tech suits I have only seen at Divisional Relays, Divisionals, All Star Relays, and All Stars. |
My favorite tech suit story:
A friend who had a 14-year-old daughter who is a fairly good swimmer, bought her a very expensive text suit, even though she only swam summers. When I saw her at a meet, the mom told me that she bought it on the condition that the daughter wear it as much as possible to get their money worth. So she said she was wearing it to practices, when she met friends at the pool, b meets, etc. |
Omg, I cannot imagine letting my swimmer wear a $500 tech suit to a summer swim meet. Those things have a limited number of wears, no chance am I letting them burn those uses on summer swim meets. Are the 13 and overs wearing them, or is it limited to the 12U approved kneeskins? |
this made me laugh hard. I have been horrified at the number of saggy 12 and under knee skins I have seen both at pvs meets and this summer. This is such a massive waste of money. |
Lower division here. I have no idea if it's a team rule or not, but I've never seen a tech suit on our team or opposing teams outside of divisionals/ relay carnival / all-stars. |
Our team doesn't have a policy, but I will say kids will laugh at you if you wear a tech suit to a B meet, who does that? Don't think I have even seen a kid wear one to an A meet unless you are trying to break a record, but even then our top swimmers have broken records in regular suits
Kids do wear them for the big meets like relay carnival, divisionals and all stars |
Kids trying to make the Coaches’ Long a course meet will wear them in MCSL to A meets (you can qualify in any A meet from any division and it is only 8 kids per gendered age group event in the entire county and kids love to swim that meet).
The idea that pools deems some kids worthy of wearing them (if you are close to a record) and others not worthy sits funny with me. We have no idea what the specific circumstance is for a kid or what their goals are or any of the details. Who are we to judge? |
