| There were a couple of kids on my son's baseball team who play higher level AAU- one was indeed Team Takeover but another kid played on Team A-Lo (I think that's how you spell it- the mom said it was part of the coach's name). Not sure where it's based but the family is in NOVA. |
| New World, Beltway Ballerz, Nova Cavs, Nova 94, Fairfax Stars. The first two if he is GOOD the other three if pretty good. Just curious... did you just move to Northern VA? I hate to say this but most kids serious about basketball have been playing AAU since 4th/5th grade. |

Top teams….
Takeover New Word Durant Warriors Next level down Dc Premier VA Elite Family Fame AKT Next Level Fairfax Stars Cavs Nova 94 Then you have lots of other teams like Proskills, Vito (new world now), BRYC, CTAB, CCT, Prolook, Elevate, etc Your kids has to be amazing to make top tier teams. Basically varsity starter as Freshman, already getting recruit interest. Mos rod them have B teams which are not as good, but still competitive. For the DC premier and Fairfax Stsrs “A” teams, your kid still has to be very very good to make their A teams. |
|
Be weary if they say they play for “Takeover” or other name where.
Takeover A team is EYBL, best of the best. Most kids are like 6’6 at 14. They have Takover National which is the “B” team and this kids are good, and then they have a Showcase team which is the “C” team. So if someone says “takeover”, ask which team it is. Some kids will chose to play for the “B”team on Takover than to be the star on a team like Noca Cavs. Some people like the names. |
Isn’t Takeover a DC-based team? What’s better for player development? B team on Takeover or A team on a lower-ranked team like the Cavs? |
Umm, the team your DC can actually make!
These teams are already established with very talented players, some of the best in the area. Your DC must be tall and/or extraordinarily skilled to make one of these teams. Even the grassroots B/C Takeover teams held multiple weekends of tryouts to fill the 10-12 player team rosters. And, the coaches then tended to select known players (from other popular AAU teams) rather than an unknown who could shoot. The Cavs coaches often preselect or recruit players from FCYBL Division 1 travel teams. Cavs teams hold tryouts earlier than most other NoVA AAU teams to take first picks. |

Not OP but when do the try outs happen?
And is there a website where the teams are listed anywhere? Trying to find this info out has been really hard so appreciate all the info here!! |
Tryouts are usually in February for the spring season, but some teams have some extra fall tryouts or clinics. It’s not easy to find information, except looking up each team’s website. |
| Fairfax Stars practices in or around Annandale or Falls Church typically. |
This list would look totally different for girls. Just an FYI. |
