Georgetown v Columbia

In honesty, Columbia has very low alumni satisfaction, little campus cohesion and protests. Georgetown seems like a no brainer here - happier students and they do have a network. Could always move to NYC after college.

If interested in humanities and economics, have you considered applying either ED 1 or ED 2 to the University of Chicago ? Better chances of being offered admission ED and better econ program than either Columbia or Georgetown.

Northwestern University would be another to consider for double or triple majoring with economics.

DC, who is a raising senior interested in both for humanities/econ (4.5 w/1560 SAT) doesn't want to apply ED to Columbia because GT doesn't like applying ED anywhere. DC is still on the fence about preference between the two and probably leaning to GT and we (parents) think Columbia is more valuable (job/contacts etc) in the future. DC is going to apply EA to both and we are trying to convince DC to apply ED. Questions: is one better over the other? what are the chances for them getting in? I should add that they have been active in student body and competed at state level for sports and won state level for MUN and the SAT score was from first attempt (DC says GT prefers that).

If those are the only two choices, Georgetown. There is no predictability to Columbia anymore. Wouldn't waste an early app there. And GT is good for econ/humanities.

GU gives zero advantage to EA. Dont waste it there. They defer everyone that isn’t legacy or faculty. They openly state it’s not advantage to EA.

How could you possibly watch the circus that transpired at Columbia just weeks ago & still want anything to do with that sh!+show?

+2

Can’t compare selectivities of two schools with ED and EA.

this might be regional bias. I've lived in nyc for 30 years and know more enthusiastic Columbia grads than GU grads by a factor of 50

Two diploma mills, neither worth the effort.

Conclusion: your kid did not get into either one.

It's GU, not GT (unless you're talking about Georgia Tech)

I have always, always considered these colleges to be on a par with the Ivy League and I don't think I'm alone in this:

MIT
Stanford
Georgetown

I went to Columbia undergrad and Gtown for grad school. I’d pick GT over Columbia.
