Starting puberty

11 is normal. Most of the kids in my daughters class got their periods in 5/6 grade.

I was born in 88 and got my period at 11 halfway thru 5th grade, and I definitely was the first. By the end of 6th grade almost all my friends had started.

She’s almost 14 now and has pretty much had a normal development other than that. What I’ve learned from talking to other parents, early, late or normal, they are all going to get it so it’s best for us to keep calm and be prepared. Have supplies in the house for her for when the time comes or when friends come over to visit, since they may be unexpectedly getting theirs too.

Did she have a growth spurt before or after she got her period?

14 is pretty late for a first period, BTW. She may be late like you but she may also be earlier (5th - 6th grade is common) so make sure she knows about it and knows she can ask you for info and supplies.

Genetics play a role too. My mother was sixteen when she got her period. My sisters and I were between 14 and 16.

How do you know that? I only know my daughter’s friends, about six of them and they all have their period except my daughter. They are 12 years old.

My daughter went from breast buds to full on A or B cup. Last summer the pediatrician said within weeks she would get her period. This week at her physical the doctor said within a year. She’ll be 13 in a few months. She’s about 5’4” with size 7 feet. I am really surprised it hasn’t happened yet.

My other daughter is petite and got her period at 14. They don’t have the same body type at all.

Seems like that puts her on track to get her period in 6th grade or so which is totally average.

Genetics isn’t everything either- I got mine at 13 and my DD didn’t get hers until 15. We do have very different body types. It just depends.

Omg. Your DD is almost 11 and just now having breast changes? Yes this is normal and not early

Genetics isn’t everything but it’s something.

DD got her period at 10.5. I got my period at 13.5. I was overweight; she was (and is) rail thin.
