Tell me about Miami

OP do you not read ?

OP here. Looking for a something a little more substantive than this type of response. Thanks. A couple of other things I should have mentioned: We plan on private school for all school years. We lived in New Orleans for several years and are accustomed to heat, humidity, and storms.

NP here with something substantive. It’s not just storms. Climate change is rapidly making Miami unlivable. The city floods often (Google “king tide”) and homeowner’s insurance is crazy expensive or unobtainable. Read about what rising sea levels do to drinking water supplies.

The above is enough to make me say no. Then there is the political climate in Florida, including the lack of women’s rights, that would make me say no.

I know many intelligent, UMC people who used to live in (and love) Miami. They have all moved to different cities. So yeah, if a friend asked me for advice about neighborhoods, I would be asking them to reconsider moving there at all.

You should spend time with your therapist instead of babbling around on dcum.

Miami, actually the whole south FL, is thriving. And that includes women OMG.

I work remotely currently. We are very open to high rise in downtown. Tell me about experiences living there with young family. Thanks so much.

OP, have you considered West Palm Beach or Boca Raton?

Miami can feel a bit caothic, especially if you don't speak Spanish. WPB and Boca are calmer, have better schools, and well connected to downtown Miami via BrightLine.

Don't do it. Living in Miami is nothing like enjoying a vacation there. I found moving there in my 20's to be a huge mistake and came back to Virginia. I especially wouldn't want to raise a child there.

NP- I have been in Florida for nearly 20 years, first in Miami Beach and now in Broward...Miami Beach was pure heaven with small children: so many playgrounds, the beach, children's museum, zoo, great libraries with passes to museums, decent free VPK.... I think the Miami area has changed in the sense it is now so wealthy that more "normal" people have been pushed out. It has gotten more of a ultra rich and young professionals vibe if only because of the housing situation. Now I am in Broward and it's a wonderful place: more down to earth, so many outdoor opportunities all year-round for everyone. My teens can play soccer, go swimming at the pool, at the beach, ride their bikes, go play tennis all in the same day. It's safe and very family-oriented. Boca and West Palm are very much the same, but I would say they skew wealthier and definitely a little less down-to-earth, which is not my personal preference.
