TJ kids are compared against their peers in TJ. So for LCPS kids coming to TJ, the playing field is not leveled as FCPS kids already get 0.5 bump for the middle school honor courses. That, IMO, is unfair. |
Likely middle or bottom or maybe top.
We have no idea |
Appreciated so much for reply! My kid took the math 3 and math 4 and AP statistic this year. For math 3 and RS1, my kid got A easily. But for math 4 and RS2 , due to the TJ math pace was too fast, and RS2 exams are far harder than RS1. So my kid only got minus A on these two math courses. |
How can your kid take RS1, RS2, Math 3, Math 4 and AP Stat in Freshman year? |
All the good TJ students double up math. /s |
congratulations on successful freshman. Math 4 is not an easy course, even for those with preview of trig. RS2 is AP stat, but TJ considers it too basic and gives just half a credit, but makes students work for the grade. |
I think RS 1&2 = AP stat I have been told that it is not uncommon for students to take RS1/2 and Math 3/4 freshman year. |
Thanks and appreciated very much for encouragement for my daughter! She took level 3 foreign language and CS foundation at 9th grade. Because she has an EC activity which needs a whole weekend time and other zoom meetings every month, so she did not have enough time to do well on her every course in busy May and June, even if she tried her best, but she still did not get all A grade. She feels some unhappy because one of her friends who is in the base common high school told her she got all A grade this year. So, I comfortable her minus A is also a A grade, and I am proud of your hard work! Thanks and appreciated so so much for encouragement words!!! Even though her GPA is not high in 9th grade at TJ. |
Significant portion of the TJ class doubles up on math, either math 3&4 or math 4&5. A significant number that finish math 4, enroll in the only summer math 5. Any of these options can be challenging to manage, unless student has developed solid math fluency during their earlier years. |
That is not at all true. |
Right! AP statistic = RS1 + RS2. RS2 is about all AP statistics, which include RS1 knowledge, but the exam is harder, deeper, and the questions number is very small , and exam type is all multiple choice. so the RS2 exams are very harder than RS1, and it is not easy to get an A grade on RS2 exams, because you can not get A grade score if you get over 1 or 2 wrong multiple choice on exam. Furthermore, you need to master well a chapter knowledge in about one to two weeks, and did lots of homework. but most exam questions are not homework types. The most important is you need to finish a whole AP statistics textbook (RS2) in 4 months, especially for the last 2 months , you need to learn many new chapter knowledges. |
I agree, there is no way 40% get a perfect 4.0. 40% might get a WEIGHTED 4.0+ |
Depends on the school and school district. My 9th grader’s weighted GPA is 4.93 at the end of freshman year and I’m sure there are a decent number of others in his program with the same or higher. |
Which school? |
What GPA can a rising freshman expect, considering they have earned three language credits and completed Geometry in the 8th grade? |
