Some names mean “love” or “harmony” and some mean “a company founded between 1875 and 1940.”

As many people have pointed out, the last name as first name has jumped the shark. It no longer implies Old Money respectability.

Every transaction will result in a request to spell it.

Last names as first names are a tale as old as time. So many (most?) first names started as last names. The concept hasn’t “jumped the shark”, nor did it ever relay “old money,” (even if that’s what people wanted it to) - this one is just not a weird and not common (yet) first name.

I've heard of worse.

However, I would spell it Haviland.

I would also really want there to be a family connection. I don't mind last names as first names, but without a family connection, I wonder why.

Love an unusual but interesting name. That is not it.
