Which APS elementary schools should close?

Agree.

And fun fact: for a grad school assignment I studied no child left behind, you know the supposedly horrific act that sent schools down the toilet. And there was a lot that was bad about it and many of the sanctions for underperforming schools were ineffective, but we do now have data that shows that completely replacing admin of a poorly performing school is an effective way to turn it around. So yeah, please, let’s look at leadership first.

I know politics but is that really going to get in the way of the most obvious and cheapest fix?

That was a terrible idea then and a terrible idea today. Drew deserves to be its own neighborhood school. AMAC needs to stop sucking all of the oxygen.

Taylor is on the east side though. There’s a cluster of schools on top of each other on the west side - Tuckahoe, Nottingham, Jamestown and slightly further away Discovery. Taylor’s facility is awful, but it’s otherwise a terrific school.

All of the so-called insiders use code here the rest of us can’t follow. I guess CB and EG are unpopular principals but what’s AMAC.

I'll have to think on these principals, but AMAC is Arlington Montessori Action Committee. Basically their advocacy group and APS' lapdog.

Hot take: Drew doesn’t deserve to be anything other than closed. The school in its current state isn’t serving its community. The kids of Nauck (the actual children not the childless activists) deserve better.

AMAC is the loudest, most shrill group of complainers I have ever seen in my life.

Who are these principals tho?

One of them might be Cardinal, though I've never heard anything bad about that principal anywhere. Not even on DCUM.

Why does Drew "deserve" this when it's chronically under enrolled and bleeding money? What about what's good for the rest of the system?

You are not very informed then. One of the literal worst.

Then close Jamestown, it's not in good shape at all, and they had to move lots of countywide programs into it to try to fill it up, but it's too far away to do that equitably.
