Safest car and teens

I’d go smaller with better technology to avoid a collision. A brand new SUV, even a smaller one, with the latest safety features is still going to be very safe in the event of a collision.

Largest heaviest car possible, it's physics, lots of bad and illegal drivers in our area so it's not just about your teen causing the accident

A car with fewer technology features is better to learn with. You need to understand how to drive without relying on the technology.
Once you are confident driving - the safety features offer a lot of added benefits.

We are going through this right now as I have 2 kids with permits we are leaning towards a used crosstrek as the hood slopes down so there is better visibility as well as the position of the engine is such that they have lower roll over tendencies.

My kids drive a Subaru crosstrek and it is the perfect first car. It’s just big enough, but easy to drive and park. They both say it will be the car they will pick as their next car as well. Neither have ever driven my 3-row Volvo as it scares them.

My DD chose to drive a 1924 Ford Deluxe and loves it. It is slow but so is she. It is highly visible and weighs a TON! It has no safety features but she does not drive fast, far or on fast highways so we are good.
