Best hiking in DMV

Prince William Forest Park, or the Patuxent Research Refuge, depending on which direction you want to head in.

Ma'am, the 'DMV' is where you renew your vehicle registration. One does not hike there.

I love Sky Meadows - beautiful hike. Closer to home, Turkey Run is not very high traffic but really pretty. In DC proper I really do like the Arboretum for a long walk when you don’t want to drive far. Biking in DC also should not be undersold as a way to scratch that outdoors itch - it’s amazing just how many great bikerides there are.

I always enjoyed the part of the billy goat trail where you have to single file
it one direction at a time, along a narrow strip abutting the side of the rock wall. I know it’s not rope and harness stuff but it always seems just edgy and dangerous enough to make a pleasant afternoon stroll thrilling.

Is that part still open, not that my middle aged unsteady and slightly clumsy self would try it now.

Harpers Ferry is overrated. Don’t waste your time.

If you’re willing to drive up into Shenandoah that’s the best locally. But idk if that counts for OP
