Cornell - what makes it great?

Sigh. Is it competitive or is it a degree mill? Really can’t be both, you know.

People in this forum… unless you are simply thrill trollers, you really are awful.

We have a friend who, in her late 40s, makes sure that everyone she meets knows within the hour that she went to Princeton. It is so embarrassing.

I don’t have the heart to tell her. She is an otherwise truly lovely and sociable woman. But so many from our circle avoid her because she can’t fathom that she is signaling a slavish devotion to brand names. She comes off like a logo whore in a sea of Loro Piana.

Have friends I've known for years who cannot socialize without mentioning they went to Hopkins or some story about "B-school." Also embarrassing, considering how many DECADES ago both were.

I loved the variety of classes and the location. But I snowboard and play ice hockey.

My friends who attended Cornell loved it. But the only way to figure out if it’s right for your kid is to visit.

Tell that to the in house position at a small company I can't apply to where literally the ad said Ivy League or equivalent undergrad and Top 14 Law School. I am 25 years out of law school and have been General Counsel twice in my career at smaller companies. It was for their GC position.

Doesn’t seem fair but unfortunately is true in this and other careers

PP needs to be proud of his or her state university degree. Lots of anger in this post.

Heard Cornell FA is not that good. They admit a lot of kids hoping enough will bite.

DC is quite happy and doing amazing. He made the choice. Visited both schools. It was the right choice for DC. Going into junior year and has had two amazing internships each summer. We’re all very happy with the decision.

Until she actually gets in, is it even worth thinking about?

Cornell is huge and it's full of creepy and elbowy swots. Unless your kid is attractive enough and your family is wealthy enough to gain entry into a top tier sorority or fraternity, it's not a credential that impresses anyone and the network is mediocre.

Depends on your alternative.

Let's talk about "creepy" for a minute...
