Do schools/teachers consider GT status at all?

My kid was retested in 3rd grade after being just under the line in 2nd. He qualified on the retest but it means nothing

As mentioned in other recent threads, MCPS has a state-mandated obligation both to identify GT and meet the associated need with differentiated instruction. It only becomes meaningless if teachers/admins don't do that with fidelity (adherence across schools and classrooms is variable) and parents don't think they have anything they should expect.
