Article by Harvard student on the institution's academics

What's weird is that this is so exciting for you, OP. I did not attend anything resembling an Ivy, but at least I don't have a huge chip on my shoulder about it. The same description could apply to many colleges and universities. Why would you hoist Harvard on a hated pedestal and expect those students to behave differently?

Check yourself.

I believe everything I read that confirms my biases.

+1. OP's reaction to a student tale is very weird. The green-eyed monster got ahold of OP and it's interfering with her judgment

Hurdle is getting in. Getting out with a 3.6 is what identifies you as a failure.

No, it actually isn't.

There are slackers everywhere. College is what you make of it.

That wasn't the point. At most schools, true slackers don't pass.

Not sure that’s the case. Harvard has extreme grade inflation so the students gravitate towards other activities because their grades aren’t going to distinguish them

It's like HS 2.0.

DP. I think one can both be impressed by Harvard’s brand influence and impressed with other schools having more rigor. Even if Harvard is someone’s first choice and they’re rejected, it’s good for them to know the silver lining might be they actually learn more academically elsewhere. It’s probably for the best that one or a couple schools aren’t tops in all respects.

Students at every school are skipping lectures and doing half the readings and passing. I graduated with honors from a school known for lack of grade inflation and I recognize myself in some of these stories. True slackers pass all the time at every school you can name.

This is the case with most Ivies. Getting in is the hard part.

Princeton and Cornell STEM do not f around. Other than those, this may be true

Cornell Engineering accepted a female student from my kid’s school TO. How can this be possible? Engineering from an Ivy TO???

I wonder why OP thinks a student essay in an alumni magazine is worthy if discusdion here

The author didn't attend any STEM classes where the course load are significantly higher. You can't pass those classes without putting in work. There are no essays, only labs, psets, mid terms and finals.
