Travel to Europe this summer

We're checking 2 bags for a family of 5.

I'm not spending my vacation doing laundry or rewearing smelly clothes for days.

We are doing carry-on only for three weeks in Europe this summer. Airbnbs will have washing machines and it will be hot so no bulky coats or sweaters needed.

We are a family of 4 going to Europe for 30 days. Taking a flexible hard sided carry-on plus a normal backpack. But we are staying at many AirBnB type places, so doing laundry won't be an issue. Maybe we'll see you in Italy.

In America airlines tend to turn a blind eye the carry-on size limits and make up the difference with: "Boarding groups 7 to 9, your ticket says carry-on but... NO!"

In Europe they often enforce carry-on size limits strictly: "This is 1.5 in wider than limit, so... NO!"

We always only travel with carry on, including kids. If it’s a nonstop flight, whatever size you use domestically, works internationally.
I just wouldn’t want to lug around suitcases on a train.
If in a pinch, buy some cheap clothes in Europe.

It has gotten so bad, that Spain just fined several airlines for charging for carry-ons, seat assignments, and boarding passes and not accepting cash on board.

"Spain's Consumer Rights Ministry fined the carriers for violating customer rights when charging for larger carry-on luggage, picking seats or boarding pass printouts, while not allowing cash payments at check-in desks or to buy items on-board, said consumer rights associations OCU and Facua which have been challenging the practices since 2018. The ministry opened an investigation in 2023.

OCU said in a statement it expected other European countries to follow suit and also to punish those same "abusive practices.""
