I disagree.

I think either she is really really frugal. Like my mom. I swear she has some type of hurdle in her brain that makes it impossible to think rationally about money in some situations. She would not be able to handle the idea of spending money on forks for something like this.

Or, maybe your friend has a deep rooted personality trait in which she blurts out the first thing she thinks of just to be contrary. I had a friend like that too.

OP, I agree she is either contrarian/pissed you knew something she didn't (never heard the fork trick/large yard and not sure I want to commit to that out of laziness but could be a good kid project and I'd pay 10c for each fork planted)- or she thought you said some other word than fork as forks are not expensive..... oh, maybe did she think you meant silverware- still not expensive as they are what $20 a set?

You should give her a bunch of forks. Tell her "great news! I found these old forks in my donate pile in the basement. Forgot I had 'em. Let me know how they work with the squirrels!" And if she refuses, well there's your answer.
