My son was chubby from 9-13. We have a pretty healthy, balanced kitchen. He ate the same as his stick thin sibling. And no he wasn’t sneaking food (it was mostly during covid so we were all home and I worked right next to the kitchen, and yes he was still active). Some kids just bulk up for awhile before they grow. I was very worried about it, but he’s had a major growth spurt and has thinned out and looks like a different kid.

Please don’t shame people by assuming everyone who isn’t thin is shoveling doughnuts and pizza on a daily basis, this is definitely not true.

It's fine. Just make sure he doesn't eat and drink shakes , you'll need to educate him how to use the shakes

OP said the kid was eating junk food. It’s the simplest most basic change they can make.
