Is there an antihistamine that does not cause jitteriness/anxiety?

Try Astepro- it is a antihistamine nasal spray. You can use Flonase at the same time.

Codeine makes me hallucinate, and it's present in some cold/cough medications, so I steer clear.

What I now do is get the nasal spray Flonase. It's a steroid. Because of the nose's close proximity to eyes and throat, it treats all my previously severe eye allergy symptoms, as well as runny nose and coughing. I also have a strict hygiene routine in pollen season - no opening windows unless it's pouring rain, clean house, no lying on bed with street clothes, no shoes in the house, wash hands and face, brush hair after coming in from outside. I have an air filter as well.

This was my experience as well. My doc recommended Flonase, saline sinus flushes like a neti pot and eye drops. That has worked just fine for all of my symptoms and I'm no longer drowsy, jiffery or wigged out due to meds.

Zyrtec puts me to sleep; sound asleep for hours.

Allegra has no side affects for me at all.

Glad for this thread because Allegra, Claritin, Zyrtex and Xyzal all make me feel strange mentally, either right away or after a day or two. I’m trying Flonase this year and adding Azelastine, both nasal sprays, in hopes of a different administration route affecting me less. I also have bad sinus pressure, pain & swelling without congestion.

I use Dymista, a combined Flonase and Azelastine spray. And used to use Zyrtec, but switched to Allegra bc it works better for me.

Do not take Afrin, OP. You're only supposed to use that for a day or so. Afrin is not a long term solution. It will make things worse.

Does anyone feel like Allegra / Claritin makes you...a little slow? Like you aren't thinking as clearly?

Zyrtec definitely does that for me.

But I think Allegra might as well. it does not make me tired. it just makes me....not as clear thinking.

I take Zyrtec right before bed, which seems to do the trick in terms of minimizing allergy symptoms while not giving me the fuzzy feeling. But you have to have it "on board" for a while to see improvement - it's not just, take it for a few days once symptoms start and see relief.
