There is a parent/student breakfast right before that but I hope the culture is not for all parents to go to the ceremony when their child is not getting an award.

I’m not sure what that has to do with culture, but it’s only the parents whose kids are getting awards. It’s pretty long and boring and I can’t imagine sitting through it if your kid were not getting an award.

3X JMHS/Madison mom here. If your DC is getting an award, you get an invitation to the awards ceremony. If not, not invited/you do not attend.

I recall sports and academic or subject-related awards being given out; like writing, team award recognition, yearbook, newspaper, marketing FBLA

Do the seniors go to the awards ceremony even if not getting an award? Or is the ceremony just for kids/parents getting an award. It is totally unclear at our school how this works.

No, it is just for the kids getting awards.

At Chantilly HS's convocation, they specifically say that it is only for students receiving awards (and their parents). They hold it in the school and cannot accommodate the entire class of 750 students at the event.
