OP's kid isn't going to get into Truth this year. Maybe next year. The thing to know about Truth, OP, is that they're in the process of outgrowing their building and acquiring a larger building. So they didn't make a lot of offers for 6th this year, but in general it's not that hard a school to get into. I think you'd be fine to do CHML this year and continue lotterying for Truth. |
Yep. |
Op again- so I’ve read versions of this on this site a few times, but nobody elaborates- and unlike when people say negative things about BASIS, I haven’t seen a positive CHM parent chime in. It’s making me a little nervous assuming other waitlist options don’t pan out… Can any CHM parents tell me more? (Thanks to the person who suggested checking MOTH- I haven’t but will do that. Great idea) |
There aren't very many CHML middle school parents, total. That's why you aren't hearing. |
+1. Most people here don't believe in Montessori for middle school. The few who do send their kids to Sojourner Truth, not CHML. |
| If you live on Capitol Hill, have you looked at the other Hill DCPS middle schools? SH or EH is what I would go with for a 6th grader. |
Several families commute to ITDS from Capitol Hill. You may be able to find a carpool. |
| Another ITDS parent here. Based on your description of your child ITDS would be a great fit. There are many ITDs families on the Hill. If you get a spot you can probably arrange a carpool. |
| There will be some CHM parents on MOTH. Check there. You could also contact the school and see if they will put you in touch with middle school parents. |
| Stuart Hobson impressed me on our tour. It's much bigger than ITDS (like 650 kids across three grades?). Definitely has some on and above grade level students. |
| You're probably already connected with whoever helps military families enroll--but I think there may be opportunities outside the lottery? Just in case: https://osse.dc.gov/page/military-families-k-12-enrollment-district-columbia-public-schools-dcps#dcps2 |
