| Not sure where you live but if it's convenient take him to a meal or a coffee his first night/day and swing by a bookstore. +1 if it's Kramer's or Politics and Prose or something cute. Tell him you're not leaving until he picks out 2-3 books, or get him a gift card and go browse yourself to leave him to it. Also make sure he has Netflix or similar to watch if that's his preference. |
| It's a great idea, OP. A cell phone is not a good tool for dealing with insomnia, quite the opposite. I don't have any book recommendations, but maybe something like a magazine (which now cost as much as a book) in an area of interest? Puzzle book? Humor book? Something light that doesn't feel like a commitment in the middle of the night. |

My kid read the House of the Scorpion in 6th or 7th grade, so not that.
Feed is really good, though! In a similar vein, I liked The Circle by Dave Eggers. |
