Why would my neighbors need an air compressor running 24/7?

I’m not sure that it is. Wouldn’t it fall under the same category as a generator?

I’m also trying to tolerate it for the sake of being neighborly and understanding if someone is going through a difficult situation. That’s why I’d love to know WHY it’s running! I can’t make sense of it. I can’t imagine they’d leave it running for nothing, since diesel isn’t cheap!

Depends on your specific rules, mine say quiet time overnight for certain hours, so if it's running 24/7 and disrupting sleeping it's 100% a violation.

I too am interested in the mystery now!

If I figure it out I’ll definitely post an update!

Can't you just ask your neighbors?

This is my guess too.

Same. If that's the case, I would not report them. Goodness knows they need it in this ambient humidity! Otherwise they'll have mold all over their house.

OP with an update. Still no clue. The thing ran all night. When I returned home from walking my kids to the bus stop, a van was pulling up. They went inside for a quick second, came out with nothing, hitched the machine to the truck and drove off. I’m even more baffled than I was yesterday.

I agree it was for fans/dehumidifier -- flood or some kind of severe water damage and they needed to make sure it was completely dry so they left it overnight. Nothing else really makes sense to leave on at night.

My neighbor is doing the same thing in the garage in a condominium. What could he possibly be doing in there. I've never seen him bring out any products. It just strange chemical smells and the compressor running. They aren't working on the house. They are renting

Given the current political climate, they are probably making nuclear weapons. That's the most logical explanation.

Shouldn’t this have been posted in the previous post, “Nosy Neighbor”?

Join the H.O.A. Board, fine and harass them until they move away.
