Outcomes: private high school results

Sorry, should add it’s a top 10 NE boarding school rather than a local private.

I feel it was worse this year for the boarding and private school kids I know but then again they are mainly STEM so maybe easier for liberal arts

What percentage of kids at public schools in the DMV area graduate with a 4.0? I keep hearing that there is grade inflation at public schools, but it's not the case in our school. Ours has 5% of kids with 4.0.

People are making sh¡t up. It’s like an urban legend at this point.

It’s an excuse people use to explain to themselves how a public school student was admitted to a college that rejected a private school student.

Based on our non-DMV private data, 20% of class going Ivy, and 50% going T25…possibly higher for that group.

Think it’s an exceptional year for humanities majors from private high schools.

Much harder for STEM (many dinged for CS from Cornell, Stanford etc) and going to Michigan or Northwestern.

The privates are getting all the early WL calls from T20 too.

+1 Ours weren't as good, either. Not terrible. But not great. I feel bad my kid is busting their butt and would probably get into a better school from public. But they like the school they attend, so it is what it is.

Can someone explain how this works? Do the privates call the colleges or do the colleges literally pick up the phone and call the private school cc to see if the student will commit?

Here are the receipts. Yorktown gives a 4.0 for any A. And inexplicably a 3.5 for a B+ (this is all unweighted, they also give extra points for honors etc). It should be a 3.3 for a B+. And Churchill has 62% of the class with a 4.01 or higher.

I don't think this proves that public schools are easier. All schools gives a 4.0 for an A. Our school gives a 4.0 for all A's and a 3.0 for all Bs. So if you have a 89.9 you get a 3.0.

A B+ should technically be a 3.67.

And I would expect that 62% of Churchill would have a 4.01 or higher on a WEIGHTED scale. Most of the kids are taking honors and AP and 4.01 is not in any way indicative of all As.

LA private, graduating class this year was very strong placement-wise.

I feel like every year it’s different. My kid is at a suburban public (outside of a major city), and it’s been a good year for seniors. Students who aren’t even top students are having great results. It seems like colleges are looking for more “well rounded” students this year?
