But why apply in the first place? I get it that all of DC has sub-par education compared to the amazing suburbs of Ann Arbor or whatever. BUT if you are a DC resident and are playing the lottery and also dropping cash on private school applications, why are you suddenly not taking the spot? |
Because you got into a private school that you like better and are willing to pay for. |
I apologize for what might be a dumb question about Basis. I've read that they don't take many 6th graders, does this include those low in the waitlist? I'm very new to all of this. So if a child is a rising 6th grader and #50 waitlisted. do they still not have a chance? Is it because all of the spots will be given to 5th graders? |
When people are referring to the waitlist for BASIS, they're talking about 5th graders because that's where BASIS admits nearly all of its students. There is no chance of a sixth grader who is #50 on the waitlist getting in. |
Hard to say, but it usually does. |
I think it may not this year. They already let in a lot of kids in the initial lottery and I don't think many current 5th graders are leaving. It's super hard to get into Cooper now! |
Latin 6th grade list just dropped 5 spots for me. |
might just be people who dropped off ahead of you |
Was this Cooper or 2nd street? |
2nd-- it's gone down 7 spots today. Cooper dropped a few spots too. As did SWW@FS. |
Interesting. It looks like for so many years they didn't offer more than a spot or two (sometimes none) for 6th. 5th hasn't moved much for any place at all for us, including there. |
Well, I'm not asserting any offers were made, just that my number (which is a very bad number) moved a bit today. |
The higher your number is, the more likely it is to move now, as people lower than you on the waitlists drop off and make another plan. |
We turned down out 2nd St/5th spot so at least one! |
Do you mind sharing what seemed like a better option? DCI, private, staying put to finish 5th then figure it out? |
