Maybe the adult high school program at Woodson is getting included in that rate. |
Never mind, I think it might have moved to Justice. |
Any announcements made about this from administration? |
This seems like the source of the disconnect. |
Woodson also has a terrible attendance rate compared to similar HSs in the area.
|
Why is that? Annandale kids? |
Per VDOE, Woodson had a 14.26% chronic absenteeism rate in 2022-23. That doesn't jump out relative to its peer schools and is lower than some: Chantilly - 19.18% Oakton - 20.04% Madison - 15.15% Marshall - 17.09% McLean - 13.19% Langley - 9.95% |
Woodson is all outside the beltway single family homes and some townhomes. This includes the very wealthy Mantua neighborhood. So the attendance area couldn’t possible be “terrible.” |
Woodson is a top 20 school as are many of the comparable FCPS schools. I would not worry one bit. Moreover, it is still one of the best high schools in America as the report proves. |
These ratings change all the time. Time for new leadership. |
We got an email about the absentee rate being 22% this year. It’s bad |
You get the school district you vote for. |
PP all those "Annandale" kids you are referring to come to Woodson via Frost... |
If there's any group of Woodson kids responsible for lower scores/ratings, it's not the Woodson kids living in Annandale (Canterbury Woods/Wakefield Forest), or the kids transferring from Annandale to Woodson, but kids from the area in Fairfax rezoned from Fairfax to Woodson years ago. |
Attendance rates don't distinguish between excused and unexcused. Every student that takes a "mental health day" or extra "Senior Skip day" counts against the school. Also all of the family trips so the Woodson number is not surprising. A lot of affluent kids have terrible attendance. |
