How about a digital camera (and maybe photography lessons)? Or a telescope?
My in-laws just got my 9-year-old an Apple watch, and that was a huge hit. But you might not be ready for that yet! |
| Treehouse or trampoline. |
| Could you FIL handle a sporting event? Tickets to a professional baseball/soccer/hockey game are very expensive and very wow. Also recommend a sports jersey, maybe even with your kid's name on it? I have an 8 year old boy obsessed with sports and these are things he would want. |
| My 8 & 10 year olds would love to go to a concert by one of the current pop stars. |
| Jordans |

If he's fairly academic/analytical, what about a levitating (magnetic) world globe or world globe with led lighting for night and day views? They are over $100, look neat, make a statement, etc, etc (my FIL bought one as a "statement gift" for our son)

A desktop globe is not a wow gift. Sheesh. |
| Nintendo swtich |
| Boxing stuff, skis? His own real amazing set of tools and a tool bench? Great quality 3d printer? |
| No sports stuff she said he’s a nerd |
| Does he like audiobooks? What about a yoto player and a bunch of yoto cards? My nearly 8yo likes his and uses it regularly- but i appreciate that not every 7-8yo wants to sit and listen to Wind In the Willows or Treasure Island for hours and hours |

A good bike?
|
| Telescope? Binoculars? Tickets for everyone to go to a play and out for a meal? |
| Let them get him whatever they want. Tell him to say wow and thank them profusely. Then if it's something he doesn't want, tell him you can return it and you'll give him $100 to spend on whatever he wants and the rest will go into his college fund. |
