You are absolutely correct. I should be able to think that my DD can walk home after school in broad daylight, at 4:30pm (!!) without having to worry about a rapist. Why is that not true? |
Sorry. You're right, I presumed Wheaton but it could be one of the Rockville High Schools. Either way, I hope MCPS is deploying all of the vast mental health services and supports it touts to help this girl and her family heal. |
| What does this have to do with MCPS? |
I guess OP is presuming the victim is an MCPS student. Which is likely, but obviously not confirmed as of yet. |
Max in MD for second degree rape is 20 years. |
Why isn’t this first degree and I would think that this has additional penalties because it is a minor. They should also charge him with kidnapping because he took her into the wooded area. A good prosecutor can get some additional years on this. Of course they may plea if down to something like 20 after they add up all the charges. To save the girl from testifying. |
This is a good plan. Something like this happened to my daughter and I wonder if it was the same man. She went up to the front and told the bus driver. The man did not follow her to the front. The bus driver let her out at her stop but did not open the back doors so the man couldn't go out with her. I met her at the bus stop. I called the police but they fatuous nothing really happened. Very scary |
And then record expunged and name removed from sex offender registry. |
No reason for that. It’s a shame we don’t use the death penalty in maryland |
Police are looking for other victims and there are a LOT of tween/teen girls who take the public bus to and from school, especially in the area where this attack occurred. |
| Awful awful awful. At least they caught him. |
| The article I read said that he somehow lured her to the wooded area. How did he lure her? |
j It doesn’t at all and anyone who thinks that is just fear mongering |
In Maryland, first degree rape involves the use of a dangerous weapon or threat of imminent bodily harm. |
Hah, remember that groups like BLM and the Silver Spring Justice Coalition have been calling for lighter sentences and lowering of maximum sentences because it ruins the lives of the offenders to spend so much of their life in prison. I absolutely don't agree with that, but keep this in mind for example when you vote for County Council members. Some are very opposed to steps to get tough on crime (Jawando and Mink in particular). |
