How much does your 2nd grader know/talk about AAP?

- Does your kid know and want AAP?

- Do they talk about it with their classmate? Do you discuss it with other parents?

- Do they and their classmates know who got in AAP and who didn't? or is everything pretty hush hush?

- If choosing center, how do they feel about switching schools?

DC will be in AAP Level IV from fall but we won't be talking about it or discussing. Ours is a center school, hence there is no discussion around changing schools either.

The parents whom I have met at birthday parties or game practices never talk about academics. So my guess is it's all hush hush.

Someone else whose base is a center - it will come up in late summer at least parent-to-parent when other people ask which teacher your kid has. Everyone knows who the AAP teachers are.

There’s nothing hush hush in our center school (also base). Parents and students are discussing in 2nd, if not earlier.

LII came up at the end of the year party at my kids school in first grade. Some parents had never heard about LII or AAP and asked the parent volunteers at the party if anyone knew what this letter meant. Other parents volunteered that they had received it and were confused. Some parents said they had no idea what they were talking about.

We are at a non-center school and we did not have LLIV at the time. I had a few conversation during the party with the parents who had asked questions. The kids would not have been discussing LII or anything along those lines because the parents were not informed. Hardly anyone goes to the AAP info sessions, I want to say there were fewer then 15 families at the meeting in second grade.

Not at all, but we aren't at a center so I don't think she is aware of it.

We are at a center school and it's definitely discussed among the kids here. We talk to our children about it and we recently told our younger that he got in last week. He knew about it already because his older sister is in AAP. We tell both of our children though to not bring it up as a topic of conversation though, as some people are very sensitive about it (particularly if such persons didn't get in). However, we said that it's fine to discuss if someone else raises it first and asks you a question. There are some kids in school who very actively bring up the topic, which I don't like, but they are not my kids, so nothing I can do about it.

My DD heard all the chatter and would bring it up at home — “Lara’s parents really want AAP, Charlie does workbooks for the cogat, why don’t I do workbooks?” My DS, who is completely oblivious to chatter and gossip, knew nothing about AAP until he asked why he couldn’t be in class w his best friend the summer before 3rd.
